This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Regional Urban Economic Indicators."

Beginning with this issue of the Review, CAUR will compile and report quarterly economic data pertaining to 25 Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas {SMSA's) located in the 11-state Mid-Continent Region. The states included in this Region are Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. Comparative statistics on {1) average weekly income of production workers, {2) non-agricultural wage and salary employment, {3) employment in the construction industry, and {4) unemployment are presented in Table I for each of the 25 SMSA's.

A Comparison Of Experiential And Classroom Learning Models In Teaching Health Problems Of The Poor, Gerald F. Braza

The general problem was to assess differences, if any, in selected areas of knowledge, attitudes and behavior among students exposed to a classroom model with students exposed to an experiential (community live-in} model in learning about health problems of the poor. Specific problems included: the selection of instruments, the development of methods and materials for teaching the classroom and experiential groups, and the measurement of students' knowledge, attitudes, and behavior related to the poor and their health problems.

Research in general and inductive research in particular often begins from an unfocused curiosity. From this perplexity, emerges the problem of research, the collecting of relevant data, and the drawing of theoretical inferences from said data. The current research enterprise includes these major problems but is, in many respects, different. That is to say, the execution is different from that which is found in "traditional patterns of investigation."

This publication describes over 100 activity-oriented programs in which students learn through a combination of direct experience and associated instruction or reflection. Students are involved in cross-age tutoring, community services, on-the-job work experiences, foreign or domestic travel with an organized group, political campaigns, field trips, art show-productions, movie making, and still photography. Information was gathered in the spring of 1975 when the Student Community Involvement Project of the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals sent out a questionnaire to all secondary schools in the state to determine how many of them had adopted action learning. …
