This study examines the religious and spiritual activities that held the most value for older males and females, gender differences in these salient activities, and how elders rank church related activities with the idea of acquiring an understanding of the effects these activities had for the elderly. This study employed an in-person survey that used qualitative and quantitative methods to explore religiosity and spirituality. Participants were representative of the Christian religious and spiritual church congregations of the Inland Empire area, San Bernardino County.

This study seeks to counter the social narrative that African Americans resist schooling by examining African American post baccalaureate college students that have developed a passion for learning as demonstrated in their persistence and motivations to enter the teaching profession. Racially correlated disparities prevalent in standardized test scores, high school dropout rates and college eligibility remain one of the most pervasive educational dilemmas facing public schools across the nation. African Americans are identified as significantly under performing when compared to the average performance of white students.

The purpose of this study is to assess provider awareness and perception of service needs, and of the grief and loss issues that children with incarcerated parents face. The purpose of this research is to conduct a secondary analysis of data from an Elderly Inpatient Mobility Program pilot tested in a 545 bed hospital. Mobility and ambulation are essential functions that help people maintain their health. They are especially important for the elderly whose functions may be compromised by age related changes of decreased muscle strength and elasticity, bone fragility, ligaments deterioration, decreased endurance, and acquired chronic conditions.

This study examined coping skills and social support among women who experienced intimate partner violence (IPV). Intimate partner violence is a serious social problem. Women who are abused by an intimate partner are at higher risk for experiencing negative mental health outcomes, including depression and PTSD, substance abuse, and are also at risk for re-victimization than those who are not abused.

Access to medical coverage has been a topic of constant disussion for many years, in particular accessibility for Mexican-American elderly women to have their medical needs met. Consequently, many elderly women use alternative forms of medicine such as 'remedios caseros' (herbal medicine) as a means to get their medical needs met. The present study evaluated the relationship between domains of family functioning and maternal stress in families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and families of typically developing (TD) children. Bereaved parents have been shown to be at risk for psychological, social and health related conditions due to the unique type of grief experienced from the loss of a child. This study tried to see if there is a correlation with the level of care an elderly person receives in a tri-level assisted living home and the quality of life they perceive and the level of depression they experience. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. 18 participants were individually interviewed and were verbally administered the tests and questionnaire from a local tri-level assisted living facility in San Bernardino County which has 103 residents.
