Ethnic Identity Formation Among Basque-American Adolescents, Catherine M. Petrissans

This article focuses on the ethnic identity formation among one hundred Basque-American youth between the ages of nine and fifteen who were interviewed at the beginning and end of a two week long Udaleku held in Bakersfield California in 2013. This project explores four key questions related to the internal thought processes used by camp attendees to account for or try to make sense of their ethnicity. First, were camp attendees confident or confused about their ethnicity? Second, have participants attempted to “explore” their ethnicity and, if so how? The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of conflict on the sociopolitical status of women in several affected countries. The conflicts analyzed within this work are both violent and non-violent. I infer that conflict acts as an impetus to propel gender equity. I utilize the Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI) dataset to determine which movements in women’s equality have been made over the preceding twelve years and reinforce that data analysis with qualitative information through case analysis to add context and meaning to the quantitative findings.

In the literature on conspiracy theories, the least contentious part of the academic discourse would appear to be what we mean by a “conspiracy”: a secretive plot between two or more people toward some end. Yet what, exactly, is the connection between something being a conspiracy and it being secret? Is it possible to conspire without also engaging in secretive behavior? To dissect the role of secrecy in conspiracies—and thus contribute to the larger debate on the epistemology of conspiracy theories—we define the concepts of “conspiracy,” “conspirator,” and “secret,” and argue that while conspirators might typically be thought to commit …

An integrated understanding of both social and ecological aspects of environmental issues is essential to address pressing sustainability challenges. An integrated social-ecological systems perspective is purported to provide a better understanding of the complex relationships between humans and nature. Despite a threefold increase in the amount of social-ecological research published between 2010 and 2015, it is unclear whether these approaches have been truly integrative. We conducted a systematic literature review to investigate the conceptual, methodological, disciplinary, and functional aspects of social-ecological integration. I wrote the book based on my family's dog and kitten and how they live with one another. The end result is that we just need to show love to each other in order to accept our differences.

For our service learning project, our group decided to make dog treats and sell them to raise money for the local animal shelter. On the side of making dog treats, we also accepted blanket donations and cash donations. It was more difficult than anticipated to sell the dog treats but we eventually did it and raise around $70 for the animal shelter to use to keep the animals warm and healthy through the winter. There were challenges in the beginning trying to meet up with everybody and assign specific duties to group members but overall we were successful and learned …

As such, myths pertaining to sex work, such as prostitution, human trafficking, and rape myths, support culturally reinforced attitudes that rationalize the sexual exploitation of sex workers (Cotton et al., 2002). A topic related to cultural empathy was identified and a children's book filled with an adapted story embedded with the rhetoric surrounding that topic was created. Then, the book was read to a small group of at-risk youth and their responses were noted. Then, post-exposure attitude toward the reader was observed along with conversation amongst the group.

As group for a communications course at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI), we were a part of a service learning project. The project goal was to do a coat drive for the college refugee program. We wanted to help supply coats for those who perhaps don't have the means of buying coats for themselves or for their family. We got the word out by creating and posting flyers, and posting in the college newsletter. We set up donation boxes around the college. We were able to donate two giant Home Depot boxes of coats to the program.
