"The Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 signed into law by President Ford was a landmark piece of legistlation. It provided federal money for communities in block grants, with each local community making its own decisions as to the distrubution of these funds in areas such as housing, parks and community facilities."

Migration Between Regions & Change In Attitudes Toward Civil Rights, William Rice
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Inter-regional migration within the United States was studied in order to ascertain its effects on changes in civil rights attitudes. From a nationwide sample, white respondents were initially classified as being from the South or the non-South. Within these two groups, respondents were further classified as being original inhabitants or migrants from the other region. Civil rights attitude was measured with an index constructed from attitudinal items employed in the national survey. Relationships among variables were analyzed using Multiple Classification Analysis.
White Southerners were found to be more conservative in regard to civil rights attitudes than white non-Southerners. Migrants from …

The Structure Of Relevance And Marxian Sociology Of Knowledge: An Analysis Of Hegemony And Voluntary Associations, Larry R. Irons

This thesis examines the hegemonic function of symbolic structures of relevance as they are related to phenomenological commitments to social change held by voluntary associations of homosexuals. The data base of this investigation consists of the literature of 21 homophile organizations.
Organizations literature is used to facilitate a theoretical adaptation of Alfred Schutz’ discussion of relevance structures which addresses he hegemonic organization of voluntary associations. The concept of relevance structure was implemented to relate predominant orientations within the sociology of deviance to a phenomenological interpretation of group commitment serves as a heuristic device for scrutinizing the instrumental as well as …
