Segmentation of human actions is a major research problem in video understanding. A number of existing approaches demonstrate that performing action segmentation before action recognition results in better recognition performance. In this paper, we address the problem of action segmentation in an online manner. We first extend the clustering-based image segmentation approach into a temporal one, where hierarchical supervoxel levels for action segmentation are generated accordingly. We then propose a streaming approach to flatten the hierarchical levels into one based on Uniform Entropy Slice (UES), in order to preserve important information in the video. This paper presents a novel method for learning a pose lexicon comprising semantic poses defined by textual instructions and their associated visual poses defined by visual features. The proposed method simultaneously takes two input streams, semantic poses and visual pose candidates, and statistically learns a mapping between them to construct the lexicon. With the learned lexicon, action recognition can be cast as the problem of finding the maximum translation probability of a sequence of semantic poses given a stream of visual pose candidates. Recently, Convolutional Neural Networks (ConvNets) have shown promising performances in many computer vision tasks, especially image-based recognition. How to effectively use ConvNets for video-based recognition is still an open problem. In this paper, we propose a compact, effective yet simple method to encode spatiotemporal information carried in 3D skeleton sequences into multiple 2D images, referred to as Joint Trajectory Maps (JTM), and ConvNets are adopted to exploit the discriminative features for realtime human action recognition. Human action recognition from RGB-D (Red, Green, Blue and Depth) data has attracted increasing attention since the first work reported in 2010. Over this period, many benchmark datasets have been created to facilitate the development and evaluation of new algorithms. This raises the question of which dataset to select and how to use it in providing a fair and objective comparative evaluation against stateof-the-art methods. This Article examines the role military automated surveillance and intelligence systems and techniques have supported a self-reinforcing racial bias when used by civilian police departments to enhance predictive policing programs. I will focus on two facets of this problem. In this study the characteristics and extent of the smear zone are investigated using a large, undisturbed sample. The aim of using such a sample is to capture the realistic characteristics of the smear zone in relation to the in situ soil structure during the installation of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) using a mandrel. The extent of the smear zone for Bulli clay (New South Wales, Australia) is determined on the basis of normalised permeability (k(h)/k(hu)) and the reduction in the water content upon consolidation. The permeability and compressibility of the soil are investigated to determine the extent to which …

Recently, mid-level features have shown promising performance in computer vision. Mid-level features learned by incorporating class-level information are potentially more discriminative than traditional low-level local features. In this paper, an effective method is proposed to extract mid-level features from Kinect skeletons for 3D human action recognition. Firstly, the orientations of limbs connected by two skeleton joints are computed and each orientation is encoded into one of the 27 states indicating the spatial relationship of the joints.
