Book Censorship In Post-Tiananmen China (1989-2019), Yuwu Song

Abstract: Censorship has become more prevalent in Chinese cultural and social life since the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre. Modern commentary on Chinese censorship focuses on news media and Internet, but neglects print books, which is part of a broader crackdown on dissent. To fill this gap, the project aims to map the contours of book censorship in China during the past 30 years. Publishing Metrics In Arl Libraries, Cory L. Nimer

This presentation examines the applicability of bibliometrics for assessing the scholarship of faculty librarians at American research universities. This review includes a comparison of publication rates in academic disciplines and librarianship, as well as between areas within librarianship. It concludes by suggesting the importance of understanding disciplinary norms when considering using publishing statistics in retention, tenure, and promotion decisions.

Librarians from academic institutions in Utah talked about the institutional repositories (IRs) they have created to provide open access to the intellectual output of their faculty, staff, and students. Panelists provided an introduction to institutional repositories, considerations in choosing an IR software, workflow and copyright issues. They also highlighted some of the variety of materials in their respective IRs. 38 slides.

An article previously published in this journal described Gray's twelve steps to help scholars write and publish (1999). One of the elements of Gray's process is to share writing drafts and receive feedback from peers. Writing circles provide writers with peer support and reactions to their writing throughout the writing process. Participation in a writing circle can assist junior library faculty in overcoming such factors as fear, lack of confidence, and procrastination. GNARP's Digital Libraries Working Group (DLWG) is tooling up to act as a sounding board and clearinghouse for collaborative projects that provide access, and add value, to materials sought by scholars.
