Abstract

This paper examines the influence of access to library resources and services on the learning outcomes of distance learners in Nigeria. The study's objectives include investigating the impact of library resources and services on learning outcomes and exploring their joint influence. Research hypotheses are formulated and tested. The literature review demonstrates that library resources and services positively impact academic performance, research skills, engagement, and community sense among distance learners. Challenges such as user interface difficulties and information literacy skill gaps are discussed. This paper examines the use of assistive technologies in libraries to enhance access to resources for individuals with visual impairments. Various types of assistive technologies including screen readers and text-to-speech software are discussed in terms of their features and applications. Implementation challenges and strategies are examined along with the positive impact of assistive technologies on accessing library resources. The importance of promoting awareness and providing training for library staff and users is emphasized. This study examined awareness and access to electronic information resources by students at Kogi State University, Anyigba. A descriptive survey method was used for the study. The population consists of library users of Dr. Aliyu Obaje Library, Kogi State University, Anyigba. A total number of 139 were administered to undergraduate library users, 102 copies representing (73%) were returned. The study sought to assess access and utilization of climate change information by small-holder farmers in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Districts of the North-East Region of Ghana. Since the study involved a large farmer population in the area, the survey research design was employed to collect data from 387 household-headed farmers. Generally, farmers in the district had accessed to climate change information via TV, radio and mobile phone. Specifically, farmers received information mainly on temperature, rainfall, windstorm and thunderstorm. Open access (OA) is a contested term with a complicated history and a variety of understandings. This rich history is routinely ignored by institutional, funder and governmental policies that instead enclose the concept and promote narrow approaches to OA. This article presents a genealogy of the term open access, focusing on the separate histories that emphasise openness and reusability on the one hand, as borrowed from the open-source software and free culture movements, and accessibility on the other hand, as represented by proponents of institutional and subject repositories. Building on their prior research on public policy and the Internet, the authors of Digital Citizenship examine the impact of the Internet on economic opportunity, civic engagement, and political participation. Karen Mossberger, Caroline J. Tolbert, and Ramona S. McNeal define “digital citizens” as those who use the Internet daily and with skill. Analyzing data from Current Population Survey (CPS) and Pew Internet and American Life Project surveys, the authors find that Internet use is lowest in the section of society that would benefit most.
