On April 1, 1984 the Center for Applied Urban Research initiated a study of the requirements for automated word processing for the city of Omaha. The study involved the collection and analysis of information regarding the amount and kind of typing activities in each city department in the civic center. The purpose was to determine whether automated word processing would be feasible and practical in these departments and, if so, how many word processing work stations and printers would be required.

This analysis was designed to estimate the trend in St. James school enrollments through the 1980's. The trend was determined by analyzing the actual and estimated population of elementary school age from 1980 through 1989 for the area included within St. James and st. Elizabeth Ann Parishes.

Understanding the contemporary housing market or submarkets requires knowledge of the current supply of and demand for housing stock. The purpose of this study is threefold: 1) to determine the current supply of lots and platting trends, 2) to characterize the occupants of new higher value housing through the use of census data, and 3) to estimate growth and locational preference of managerial personnel through a survey of large employers.

The Omaha Legal Aid Society contacted the Center for Applied Urban Research to help assess the housing conditions of clients who had applied for legal aid with a Douglas County general assistance (GA) problem within the past 18 months. Legal Aid wanted to know what proportion of these clients were living in housing that was below minimum health and decency standards.

This report is based on the responses of 125 arts organizations. They range from small limited-interest groups to institutions with multi-million dollar budgets. Some are run out of volunteers' homes while others have marble edifices. The respondents in this report do not include local school districts, although universities are included. Metro Area Transit (MAT), the operator of the bus system in the Omaha metropolitan area, perceived an acceleration of a continuing long term trend of reduced ridership. They asked the Center for Applied Urban Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha to design a study to help them develop a strategy that would halt and reverse these patterns.
