Public Acceptance Of Medical Screening Recommendations, Safety Risks, And Implied Liabilities Requirements For Space Flight Participation, Cory J. Trunkhill Oct 2022

Public Acceptance Of Medical Screening Recommendations, Safety Risks, And Implied Liabilities Requirements For Space Flight Participation, Cory J. Trunkhill

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

The space tourism industry is preparing to send space flight participants on orbital and suborbital flights. Space flight participants are not professional astronauts and are not subject to the rules and guidelines covering space flight crewmembers. This research addresses public acceptance of current Federal Aviation Administration guidance and regulations as designated for civil participation in human space flight.

The research utilized an ordinal linear regression analysis of survey data to explore the public acceptance of the current medical screening recommended guidance and the regulations for safety risk and implied liability for space flight participation. Independent variables constituted participant demographic representations …

Identifying Criteria To Predict Army Rifle Marksmanship Proficiency, Katlin Makina Anglin Sep 2018

Identifying Criteria To Predict Army Rifle Marksmanship Proficiency, Katlin Makina Anglin

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

The United States Army requires each Soldier to develop marksmanship proficiency in an effort to achieve combat readiness. Soldiers currently develop marksmanship proficiency through Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) training, but significant skill deficiencies are apparent at the end of training. These skill deficiencies remain throughout training because instructors rarely assess Soldiers objectively before the final qualification, reducing the opportunity for instructors to diagnose skill deficiencies until it is too late. Therefore, the goal of the current research is to identify individual differences and sensor-based performance measures for inclusion in a formative assessment during BRM training. The results of the current …

Personal Protective Clothing: Law Enforcement Officers’ Attitudes And Safety Behavior Assessments Toward High-Visibility Safety Apparel, So Young Song May 2013

Personal Protective Clothing: Law Enforcement Officers’ Attitudes And Safety Behavior Assessments Toward High-Visibility Safety Apparel, So Young Song

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Traffic related fatalities are one of the most common workplace hazards in the law enforcement community. They accounted for approximately 44% of all fatalities within the law enforcement occupational field between 2002 and 2011. Although many law enforcement officers’ deaths are due to being struck by vehicles, these could be prevented with the use of High-Visibility Safety Apparel (HVSA). The importance of raising traffic protective behavior compliance is largely overlooked by misperceptions in the workplace. Relatively few studies have examined HVSA wearing behaviors associated with social psychological human elements. It has still remained unclear as subjective or objective experiences. Proper …

A Macroscopic Validation Of The Evacuation Simulation Prediction Tool On Highway Travel Times, Kay Fortinberry Borglum Apr 2007

A Macroscopic Validation Of The Evacuation Simulation Prediction Tool On Highway Travel Times, Kay Fortinberry Borglum

Master's Theses - Daytona Beach

The purpose of this applied research study was to test the sensitivity of the Evacuation Simulation Prediction (ESP) tool in predicting travel time during high volume traffic periods. The discrete event-based simulation tool was designed to aid local evacuation planning contingencies. Research of the Florida Department of Transportation traffic count data demonstrated parallel trends in rush hour volume versus hurricane evacuation volume. A model validation was designed to test if the model closely predicted high volume travel on a major interstate. For this macroscopic sensitivity test, volume, travel time and speed were collected to examine the baseline predictability under crash …
