Nursing home finance is an important issue for policy makers and healthcare financial managers due to an aging population and the dependence of nursing facilities on public finance. In this dissertation, I have three specific aims: (1) to test whether neighborhood characteristics affect the availability of resources in urban nursing homes in the U.S.; (2) to identify the optimal administrative support for maintaining financially sustainable nonprofit nursing facilities in the U.S.; and (3) to examine the effect of Medicare-Medicaid financial alignment on government expenditure structures.
