America is rapidly becoming more accepting of homosexuality. This is not only seen by more public acceptance of gay people in media, but also according to a PEW Research study conducted this year, the majority of Americans now support gay marriage (PEW Research Center, 2015). It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what factors have contributed to this change in perception despite numerous studies. Differences between male and female attitudes towards the homeless There are many negative stigmas of the homeless. For example, it is a negative stigma that most homeless people are misusing drugs. Attitudes towards the homeless population can be influenced by these negative stigmas. There has been little research conducted on the public’s perception of the homeless and even less research done on the differences between male and female attitudes. In recent years, extensive social media use has begun to emerge among users and can be related to increased time on social media outlets. Increased time on social media platforms has raised concern about a new phenomenon called the Fear of Missing out (FoMO; Przybylski, Murayamab, DeHaanc, and Gladwelld, 2013).
