Revisiting The Global Governance Framework In History And Understanding Its Contemporary Potential For The European Union, Olivia Christine Anderson

Graduate Thesis Collection

This study investigates the historical development and implementation of global governance theory, recognizing its collaborative framework as a critical tool in global politics. While the theory, alongside its epistemic foundations, offers productive and useful guidance for approaching transnational affairs, the question remains whether or not the application of this theory to reality has been successful and advantageous. In order to evaluate this translation, three key structures for transnational relations are examined: the Entente Cordiale, the League of Nations, and the European Union. By consulting key global governance theorists, academic assessments, as well as news reports, this paper analyzes and evaluates …

The Ku Klux Klan In Indiana In The 1920'S As Viewed By The Indiana Catholic And Record, Joseph M. White Jan 1974

The Ku Klux Klan In Indiana In The 1920'S As Viewed By The Indiana Catholic And Record, Joseph M. White

Graduate Thesis Collection

The Ku Klux Klan during the 1920's attained a high level of influence though not outright control in the political and social affairs of Indiana. The Klan with its nativist vision of American life regarded with hostility the deviant values represented by Negroes, Jews, Roman Catholics, and aliens. The irony of the rise of this movement in Indiana was that the population of these minorities was proportionally lower in the Hoosier state than in most other states.

The Indiana Congressional Delegation And Foreign Policy Issues 1939-1941, Loretta S. Glaze Nov 1971

The Indiana Congressional Delegation And Foreign Policy Issues 1939-1941, Loretta S. Glaze

Graduate Thesis Collection

This paper is an examination of the foreign policy attitudes of Indiana's United States Senators and Representatives during the critical years before the Second World War. My purpose is to determine whether these particular Mid-Westerners were a part of the isolationist bloc in Congress which exerted a significant influence on the formulation of foreign policy. The scope of the study is limited to an elucidation of the individual views as expressed in Congress b the members of the delegation and an analysis of the campaign for re-election waged by each of them as it relates to the broader issue.

The Mccarthy Campaign In Indianapolis (1968), Carlotta B. Anderson

Graduate Thesis Collection

This paper is about the primary campaign of Senator Eugene McCarthy in the State of Indiana in 1968. It will focus its attention on Indianapolis, the largest city and the capital of the state, and an area where the Senator did quite poorly. (1) Though some magazine articles, newspaper stories and books have been useful, this paper is basically the campaign as viewed by 20 participants. Without their cooperation, it could not have been written.

A History Of The League Of Women Voters Of Indianapolis, Barbara E. Zimmer Jan 1970

A History Of The League Of Women Voters Of Indianapolis, Barbara E. Zimmer

Graduate Thesis Collection

On April 16, 1920, the Woman's Franchise League of Indiana, Indianapolis Branch, voted to disband and to establish a League of Women Voters in its place, carrying the members of the Franchise League on its roster for the first six months. Votes for women, the single purpose for which they, and others like them across the continent, had worked, was certain of accomplishment. The Federal Amendment, granting suffrage to women, had passed the Congress in the previous year and ratification by a sufficient number of states seemed certain.

The Foreign Policy Of Harry S. Truman, Patricia Reagan Slater Jan 1967

The Foreign Policy Of Harry S. Truman, Patricia Reagan Slater

Graduate Thesis Collection

Without knowing it, a professor of mine, Dr. Emma Lou Thornbrough, stimulated my interest in President Truman when she stated in a freshman history course that Harry S. Truman would go down in history as one of the greatest American Presidents if not the greatest because of his ingenuity in foreign policy. The exact purporse of this paper is to examine these programs.

The Indiana Department Of Commerce And Public Relations, Edna-Mae Ross Jan 1947

The Indiana Department Of Commerce And Public Relations, Edna-Mae Ross

Graduate Thesis Collection

The Indiana Department of Commerce and Public Relations does sell the State to residents and non-residents. This "selling," however, bears practically no resemblance to the antics of super high-powered press-agentry often commonly associated with anything having to do with the relatively new field of public relations. Moreover, this selling has two very definite aspects: seeing to it that Hoosiers become better boosters for their State by acquainting them with the interesting facts and assests of Indiana, and by presenting the opportunities and advantages of the State in such manner that its economic wealth will be increased through the attraction of …

Raymond Poincare's Role In The Negotiations From June 28 To August 4, 1914, Corlie E. Jackson

Graduate Thesis Collection

In view of the unsettled condition of European diplomacy today, it should be profitable to study the antecedents of the World War in more detail than hitherto. Such a study will make clearer the steps taken by national leaders then - steps which at that time were unable to avoid war.

The Contribution Of The Friends' Church To Education In Indiana, Ethel H. Mcdaniel Jan 1935

The Contribution Of The Friends' Church To Education In Indiana, Ethel H. Mcdaniel

Graduate Thesis Collection

To investigate the rise and trace the progress of a particular section of the religious community is an interesting object. When it has reference to a people such as the Society of Friends whose principles and practices so prominently distinguish them among others of the Christian name, the interest of such a pursuit becomes greatly enhanced. James Bowden, History of Friends in America, Vol. I.

The Regulation Of Child Labor By Federal Legislation, Forrest R. Caldwell Jan 1929

The Regulation Of Child Labor By Federal Legislation, Forrest R. Caldwell

Graduate Thesis Collection

Within the last decade the people of the United States have been endeavoring, through recognized legislative channels, to decide the problem as to whether the federal govenment of the country, acting through the medium of an amendment to the United States Constitution, should be commissioned to assume responsibility for the protection of the welfare of all children, and to control the working activities of these children during the periods of childhood and adolescence.
