Antecedents Of Transactional, Transformational, And Servant Leadership: A Constructive-Development Theory Approach, Marilyn J. Bugenhagen

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Scholarship

This field study examined the antecedents of transactional, transformational, and servant leadership behaviors measured on continuum of constructive-development development theory.

Data collected from 54 leaders and 409 followers from community and educational leadership programs across the United States. A multi-level analysis conducted using hierarchical linear modeling combining leaders’ perception of their leadership behaviors, followers rating of leaders’ behaviors and measure of leaders’ level of constructive-development order.

Using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Avolio & Bass, 2004) and Servant Leadership Questionnaire (Barbuto & Wheeler, 2006) and correlated with constructive-development Order using the Subject-Object Interview (Kegan,1982; Lahey, Souvaine, Kegan, Goodman, & Felix, 1988) …

Final Report: Westbrook Downtown Parking Study/Management Plan, Gorrill-Palmer Consulting Engineers, Inc.

Maine Town Documents

In the early 2000's, Westbrook was the beneficiary of an upswing in the Southern Maine economy, aided by a strong marketing effort on the part of the City. As a result, new office buildings and retail facilities located in or near the downtown area and older buildings were rehabilitated and redeveloped. This increase in commercial and business activity increased the demand for parking downtown. With an eye toward long-term growth, a parking management plan was developed to provide the tools necessary to manage the increased demand for parking.

Minority Women In The Healthcare Workforce In New England, Carol Hardy-Fanta, Erika Kates, Helen Levine, Kate Peery-Wolf

Publications from the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy

Research on health disparities affecting people of color typically focuses on their health status, health treatment and health outcomes with a particular emphasis on the relatively high rates of morbidity and mortality from selected diseases for ethnic and racial minority groups. This fact sheet offers a different but related focus on gender and race/ethnicity in the health care workforce. Our rationale is that the Sullivan Commission on Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce concluded that the lack of minority doctors, nurses and dentists is a significant cause of racial/ethnic health disparities and that the ability to recruit, train and retain minority …

Scale Development And Construct Clarification Of Servant Leadership, John E. Barbuto, Daniel W. Wheeler Jun 2006

Scale Development And Construct Clarification Of Servant Leadership, John E. Barbuto, Daniel W. Wheeler

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

This article presents an integrated construct of servant leadership derived from a review of the literature. Subscale items were developed to measure 11 potential dimensions of servant leadership: calling, listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, growth, and community building. Data from 80 leaders and 388 raters were used to test the internal consistency, confirm factor structure, and assess convergent, divergent, and predictive validity. Results produced five servant leadership factors—altruistic calling, emotional healing, persuasive mapping, wisdom, and organizational stewardship— with significant relations to transformational leadership, leader-member exchange, extra effort, satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness. Strong factor structures and good performance …

Better Inputs For Better Outcomes: Using The Interface To Improve E-Rulemaking, Cynthia R. Farina, Claire Cardie, Thomas R. Bruce, Erica Wagner

Cornell e-Rulemaking Initiative Publications

We believe that e-rulemaking does indeed have potential to increase both the transparency of, and participation in, regulatory policymaking. We argue in this paper that this potential can be realized only if the public interface at www.regulations.gov is substantially redesigned.

All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications

This paper presents new knowledge about the current status of training on the economic value of stewardship practices in the Ohio Lake Erie basin. Local decision-makers shape coastal and watershed conditions but often do not appreciate the economic, fiscal, and ecological benefits that could be gained from sound stewardship practices. This study investigated the information and training about economic benefits available in the Ohio Lake Erie basin. Training providers and technical assistance professionals helped identify key training needs and challenges to decision-maker awareness of benefits. We found relatively few organizations offering training that incorporate economic or fiscal benefits into their …

Introduction, Jerry White, Dan Beavon, Susan Wingert Jan 2006

Introduction, Jerry White, Dan Beavon, Susan Wingert

Aboriginal Policy Research Consortium International (APRCi)

Co-chaired by Dan Beavon of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Jerry White of the University of Western Ontario, and Peter Dinsdale of the National Association of Friendship Centres, the conference promoted interaction between researchers, policy-makers, and Aboriginal peoples. It expanded knowledge of the social, economic, and demographic determinants of Aboriginal well-being, and sought to identify and facilitate the means by which this knowledge may be translated into effective policies.

Volume III begins with a look at education and employment transitions, followed by issues of socio-economic well-being, and concludes with some international research.

Smart Growth: A Buffer Zone Between Decentrist And Centrist Theory?, Dorothy Stewart, Lorcan Sirr, Ruth Kelly

Articles

The context for planning at the turn of the 19th century, in a newly industrialized world, was based on the need to find solutions to overcrowding and dire urban conditions. Planning decisions made in the post-World War II period were primarily motivated by the desire to reconstruct war torn cities. The forces of influence for planning and development in modern advanced capitalist societies are arguably set within the context of sustainable development. Many developed countries have witnessed a dramatic change in their territorial structures. Urban centres are extending into rural areas and surrounding hinterland, where large tracts of land are …
