Thanks to a partnership between the Cedarville University School of Nursing and Department of Exercise Science, children in Springfield, Ohio will be getting a boost in health education and exercise activities.

The initiative will be led by Rachel Parill, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing, and April Crommett, Ph.D., associate professor of exercise science. Crommett and Parill, along with several Cedarville students, will work with the Springfield Promise Neighborhood to give better access to physical activities and health resources for children in low-income households.

School Of Education Offers Exceptional Overseas Program, Mark D. Weinstein

Through the innovative Overseas Student Teaching Program (OSTOP), the Cedarville University School of Education is giving education majors unique experiences abroad.

Since its inception in 1972, OSTOP has sent almost 15 students overseas each year. This year, 13 students will get that opportunity, including Laura Tice, a senior social studies education major from Birmingham, Alabama.

Two Cedarville University seniors have been awarded a $2500 scholarship from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments.

Andrea Martinson, a biology major from Springfield, Ohio, and Amiah Warder, an environmental science major from Sheridan, Wyoming, area among just 13 students from an Ohio college or university to be awarded the 2015 Ohio EPA Environmental scholarship.

Rachel Jones has been named director of career services at Ouachita Baptist University effective Dec. 1. She succeeds Rachel Roberts who had served in that role since 2014.

Jones previously served as marketing director for Sodexo on the Ouachita campus and as a hall director and assistant director of recreational life at Ouachita. She also has held staff positions at Midwestern State University and University of the Ozarks.

Cedarville University is the fifth most beautiful campus among all Christian colleges in the nation according to Christian Universities Online. Cedarville is the highest-ranked university in Ohio--Bluffton College (No. 24) and Mount Vernon Nazarene University (No. 46) were the only other Ohio universities on the list.

The ranking described Cedarville’s campus as being “set on a rural, 400 acre campus, the area has a classic college-town feel to it with a comfortable, natural setting.” The description also highlighted Cedar Lake and the compact, modern architectural style of the buildings.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will host its annual One Act Play Festival on Dec. 10-11 at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre. The performances are free and open to the public.

The One-Act Play Festival is a required part of a senior level course for theatre majors. These seniors choose a play of their choosing, cast the actors and direct the plays. Auditions for these plays are open to anyone on the campus, so students from all majors have the opportunity to participate in the festival. This year’s festival includes nine different performances.

This thesis will explore crisis management, using Timothy Coombs’ crisis management strategies, of Chick-fil-A and then COO Dan Cathy to see if those two parties implemented crisis strategies in a way that benefited the organization following Cathy’s statements in support of the biblical definition of family. The language associated with President Nixon’s ‘war on drugs’ has sparked considerable debate in the political struggle against narcotics' abuse and crime, as well as within scholarly research. There is a language associated with the debate and it reflects the primary considerations of policy makers- economics, criminal behavior, and morality. The present study discusses these qualities as well as the rhetorical ideas of Richard Weaver, specifically his theory of ultimate terms. Then, discussions within research show the discontent that scholars bear towards narcotics'-related language. Cedarville University has announced an increase in scholarships for new freshmen students enrolling for the 2016-17 academic year. This announcement is a result of the administration’s goal of making Christian higher education more affordable for incoming students.

Since 2011, Cedarville University’s financial aid investment has increased more than 50 percent — moving from $18.1 million to $27.3 million. The increased scholarships will add another $3 million for student aid, bringing the total to more than $30 million.

Cedar Cliff Partnership Enriches Elementary Students, Mark D. Weinstein

Cedarville University’s School of Education and Cedarville Elementary School are partnering to create enrichment experiences for students in grades K-5.

Pre-service teachers, along with other Cedarville University faculty and staff, are providing hands-on enrichment sessions in the areas of science, math, language arts, theater and fine arts. Pre-service teachers are education majors involved in a school-based field experience under the supervision of a cooperating teacher.

The enrichment sessions began on Saturday, Nov. 7, and will take place once a month through March at Cedar Cliff, which is located directly across the street from Cedarville University.

With the goal of reaching out to the community, Cedarville University students will help local residents with various projects on Saturday, Nov. 14. The program, “CU in the Community,” is sponsored by students and held during a weekend each semester.

According to Keith Holcomb, assistant director of global outreach, up to 50 residents or senior citizens are helped with house projects. These projects include raking yards, washing windows and general home and yard maintenance.
