The article discusses distinguishing features of the American humor and satire. National peculiarities of American satirical short stories are analyzed via examples of the works of American short-story writers. The main attributes of satire, its history, genres as well as the specifics of the genre are considered. The phenomena of satirical short story popularity in America is analyzed. Stylistic devices, comic creation means, implemented in the works of the XX century American writers are distinguished.

By means of comparative-typological tools the article describes the ‘Transformation’ motif as one of the most ancient, traditional motifs in the oral and written literature of the world. It explains the existence of general and specific features comparing poetic appearances and functions; correlation between genesis and mythological thinking, as well as the usage of remnants in modern literature on the basis of poetic innovations.

Little work has been conducted on the intersections of queer and Appalachian identities, in part because these two identities are viewed as incompatible (Mann 2016). This study uses a multimodal critical discourse analytic approach to examine the Instagram posts of the Queer Appalachia Project, which represent a substantial body of discourse created by and for queer Appalachians. Of specific interest to this analysis are those posts which employ folkloric figures, such as West Virginia’s Mothman, to do identity work that is queer, Appalachian, and queer-Appalachian. The present paper examines heroic system in oral epics and notion about 'sohibqironlik'. The article compares heroic system in 'Alpamysh', 'Gurugli' and meaning of sohibqironlik in 'Timurname'. Amir Temur who was respected statesman named as a Sohibqiron and introduced Uzbek people to the world by his considerable ability and great wits is revered as a national hero in Central Asian history. Only a few sultans are found to be worthy this honour. That is to say, five King and their dynasty are admitted as a Sohibqiron. Born out of the convergence of intellectual traditions and owning a borrowing capacity analogous to the one that engenders creole languages, the study of folklore, or folkloristics, claims the right to adapt and remodel political, psychological, and anthropological insights, not only for itself but for the humanities disciplines of philosophy, art, literature, and music (the “PALM” disciplines). Performance-based folkloristics looks like a new blend, or network, of elements from several of those. The collection consists of Dr. Bryant’s professional and organizational files, biographical data, correspondence, and speeches. Most of the material relates to her publishing efforts, her work as a faculty member at Brooklyn College, and her involvement with professional organizations, especially the New York branch of the American Association of University Women. Most of the material extends form 1950-1975. A list of the more prominent individuals who corresponded with Margaret Bryant has been included as an appendix to the inventory.
