We undertook this project to learn more about the Open Access experiences of scholars working outside of the sciences, with an emphasis on any related payments and funding sources. In addition to gaining insight into arts and humanities scholars’ engagement with Open Access publishing, we also seek to tease out some of the intersections of privilege, affiliation, disciplinarity, and publishing that are not yet well-documented in the literature.
In addition, we will consider the significance of our findings for librarians who support scholars in the arts and humanities, including but not limited to collection development implications for subscription journals with …

Over the past ten years, there has been a growing interest in integrating arts and humanities in medicine to increase learners’ empathy and resilience, improve personal well-being, communication, and observational skills, enhance self- reflection, and promote professionalism. These desired skills and qualities are becoming increasingly important for the physicians of tomorrow. Parallel to curricular interventions of integrating arts and humanities to medical education, there has been an increasing research interest in investigating the impact of such interventions on medical students with respect to improving and sustaining students’ empathy as they progress in their medical education and develop their professional identity. …

The pressure for increased research productivity to raise institutional ranking has shifted priorities for Indian universities. The role libraries can play in this scenario is of vital importance. Research Support from libraries needs to be examined along with how researchers are responding to this. The purpose of the study was to understand how aware and satisfied the researchers in AHSS (Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences) were regarding the Research Support provision of an Indian University Library (Anna Arignar Library). The authors surveyed the relationship between researchers and Library Research Support at an Indian university which had a high research ranking in …

The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any distinct differences in e-book usage habits among students in the social sciences, technical fields and the arts. To complete this study, students from three different disciplinary areas were surveyed. The same nine questions were posed to each student group, with slight modifications to some questions based on the discipline. The results of this study show that students in each discipline have a preference for convenience and accessibility, whether material is print or electronic. Some more unique characteristics between disciplines include the percentage of students using books and frequency of …

Introduction:
Western Kentucky University Library had a large two-level, but largely unused lobby that had once been the library’s entrance but had been closed as a new entrance was created. By 2002, it sat empty and all but devoid of human traffic just outside our Reference area. Also, in 2002, Reference statistics were down, as was Circulation and library usage in general. Dean Binder believed that with the renovation and development of this former lobby, the library would realize an increase in campus visibility and library usage would increase.

Diversity addresses issues of inclusivity and the systemic nature of exclusivity in various settings, including the role of archival education in preparing new generations of archival practitioners, educators, and researchers. This article discusses why pluralist approaches might help to achieve greater diversity and cultural sensitivity in practice and scholarship. It addresses three key components of such approaches: identifying ways in which dominant cultural paradigms narrow archival pedagogy and practice; envisioning and exploring alternatives to these paradigms; and developing an archival educational framework to promote a critique of professional and societal norms and include diverse perspectives on archival theory and practice. …
