In 2014 Nova Southeastern University celebrated its 50th. In conjunction with the anniversary, the NSU Libraries determined a need to preserve the past, present and future of the university by creating a campus wide repository for all scholarship, creative work, and historical materials produced by the university. NSUWorks is a part of the NSU Libraries’ contribution to the university’s ongoing growth and success as an internationally recognized research institution. This presentation was an update on the changes being proposed for the next iteration of the IPEDS academic library survey component. In addition, suggested changes for the annual survey conducted by ACRL to be implemented for the 2014-15 survey were presented. A discussion with members of the audience focused on issues they faced in completing the annual surveys.

This presentation offers a case study of how one library’s assessment of datagathered from its public service desk led to changes and improvements in service. The William H. Hannon Library at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) recorded all of the questions and answers asked at its Information Desk from Fall 2009 to the present using the Gimlet (http://gimlet.us) electronic question tracking system. A content analysis was performed on the data that led to advancements in signage and a new knowledge base of FAQ’s. In addition, new services were implemented related to technology and research that addressed user needs.
