A Festschrift style publication would provide a venue for SDA Librarians to publish research and develop a body of professional literature that addresses the needs of SDA libraries and librarians. It is proposed because it does not involve specific time dead- lines and allows for short-term commitments for editorial leadership. It is also an accepted method of acknowledging and recognizing esteemed colleagues.

Course Management Systems (CMS), such as Blackboard, Sakai, Canvas Instructure, and Moodle are ubiquitous in the classroom environment. These systems are bridging the gap between traditional, hybrid, and fully online classes, as most academic institutions have adopted the use of a CMS across a wide spectrum: from serving to keep track of administrative processes, such as grading and attendance, to being the main tool for organizing and communicating course information for both faculty and students. Libraries have responded by implementing a variety of services in the CMS, including LibGuides, chat widgets, discovery search tools, and more. Three academic library panelists …

The University of Wyoming Wool Laboratory operated on campus from 1907-2012, in which time the sheep and wool industry experienced great change. For over a century, the faculty of the Wool Lab carefully cataloged research associated with sheep and wool, accumulating a collection of over 1,000 individual titles, 10,000 bound journal articles, correspondence, equipment manuals, and data notebooks, and a set of 872 preserved wool samples dating from 1837. This collection, now housed at the Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections Library at the University of Wyoming, is thought to be one of the most unique and complete collections of sheep …

There is an emphasis on evidence-based and evidence-informed practice in the social and behavioral sciences. Students in those fields are expected to achieve certain competencies that demonstrate their ability to conduct research. However, students at the undergraduate and graduate levels are often at a loss as to how to optimize their search strategies across multiple, online databases. This is particularly true when researching minority or ‘hidden’ populations. Using a shared, situated interactional approach, I offer a ‘lessons learned’ case study to guide graduate students through the information-seeking process across cultural groups. This article seeks to outline the use of controlled vocabulary standards for qualitative datasets in cultural anthropology, which are increasingly held in researcher-accessible government repositories and online digital libraries. As a humanistic science that can address almost any aspect of life with meaning to humans, cultural anthropology has proven difficult for librarians and archivists to effectively organize. Yet as anthropology moves onto the web, the challenge of organizing and curating information within the field only grows. In considering the subject classification of digital information in anthropology, I ask how we might best use controlled vocabularies for indexing digital anthropological data. …
