DUNE: DigitalUNE, the University of New England's library-managed online repository, archives and provides worldwide access to exemplary work by UNE community members. The MS Applied Nutrition program at UNE has collaborated with DUNE to provide a platform for students to share their academic work with peers and colleagues, and to develop nutrition education resources for practitioners around the world.
DUNE is hosted on the Digital Commons platform. Uploaded items receive unique URLs, allowing use statistics to be kept regarding how often and where works are viewed. The platform is flexible, hosting and managing myriad formats of digital objects, and allowing …

Poster describing project collaboration among University of New England (UNE) librarians and College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) faculty, whose goal was to adopt technology which will teach UNECOM students to be empathic with older adults and familiarize medical students with information resources from the NIH/NLM related to older adult health. Technology tested was the Alfred Lab developed by Embodied Labs. First year medical students were required to complete the ‘We Are Alfred’ virtual reality module and a pre and post assessment. Descriptive statistics were applied to finite questions on pre and post assessments, and content analysis on open ended answers. …

After winning a copyright consultation with copyright specialist Barbara Ingrassia during the 2015 North Atlantic Health Sciences Libraries (NAHSL) Scholarship Raffle, UNE librarians decided it was high time to conquer our fears and create a tool to help with the balancing act that is Fair Use. This poster describes the development and promotion of a Fair Use Checklist.

Poster presentation describing the outcomes for 30 first-year DPT students instructed in the elements of Evidence-Based Practice in a 2 credit course - Scientific Inquiry 1 (SI1). Faculty evaluated changes in: (1) DPT students’ knowledge and skills of EBP, as measured by the Adapted Fresno Test of Competence in Evidence-Based Practice (AFT) and (2) students’ self-confidence in EBP skills. This is the first study to use the AFT to evaluate changes in DPT students’ knowledge and skills related to EBP after formal instruction. The observed 24 point increase in the mean total score is educationally important and comparable to the …

Poster presentation describing the collaboration of physical therapy faculty and university librarian in teaching elements of evidence-based practice in Scientific Inquiry 1 in the DPT curriculum. These elements included: Writing a patient-centered clinical question P: Patient/Problem/Population I: Intervention C: Comparison O: Outcome; Developing an effective search strategy; Searching electronic databases for articles. Although the literature contains examples of faculty-librarian collaboration in other disciplines, reports about the collaboration in physical therapy programs are scarce and this collaborative teaching model is unique.
