A Content Analysis Of Cinderella Illustrated Storybooks Housed In The De Grummond Collection, Kimberly Smith

This study screened 71 “Cinderella” illustrated storybook titles housed in the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection and published from 1984-2004 for specific expressions of the animal helper theme—identified as “common incidents” by the sourcebook, Cinderella: Three Hundred and Forty-five Variants. The study sorted and classified the “Cinderella” illustrated storybook titles into three major groups—Traditional, Multicultural, and Alternative—and further classified the Multicultural storybooks as African-American, Anglo-American, Asian, European, Latino, Middle Eastern, and Asian.
