This study focuses on developing a scale that encompasses aspects of readiness to change by library management in dealing with the next normal in libraries. It investigates measuring change readiness in terms of library service operations, workflows, administration, programs, and spaces, which can give an overall view of a library institution's preparedness to meet new roles and expectations. While there were several readiness-for-change instruments constructed for various organizations and institutions, this study uses a two-phase approach, attempting to design an instrument and validate the items in this scale. Undergraduate history majors need to know how to conduct archival research. This paper describes the second phase of a project to identify “archival literacy” competencies. Faculty, archivists, and librarians from baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral/research institutions commented on a draft list. This resulted in competencies in six major categories: accurately conceive of primary sources; locate primary sources; use a research question, evidence, and argumentation to advance a thesis; obtain guidance from archivists; demonstrate acculturation to archives; and follow publication protocols. Collaborations of archivists, faculty, and librarians can integrate the competencies throughout undergraduate history curricula in their institutions.

This presentation was given to subject specialist librarians at Purdue University to engage the topic of research data in the context of collection development. The Purdue University Research Repository (PURR, http://purr.purdue.edu) creates opportunities for librarians to interact with researchers, including email notifications when a project is created, when a grant is awarded, and when a dataset is submitted for publication. Curriculum mapping is a process by which curricula are methodically examined to determine where information literacy (IL) capabilities are, or should be taught during formal coursework. Curriculum integration is the process of intentionally integrating IL capability at the points in coursework when students need to master those capabilities and competencies. During this session, librarians will develop an understanding of curriculum mapping and how to integrate IL in curricula. This knowledge prepares librarians for campus leadership, since the curriculum is the primary focus of teaching and learning and affects the entire campus.

Librarians are not trained as original researchers during library school. As a result, librarians as authors may succumb to common statistical misconceptions and use errors, thus it is important for librarians to know how to recognize them. A quick discussion of what a researcher should be aware to avoid poor methods and inaccurate use of statistics is included. A review of statistics and research methods courses currently offered in library and information science programs helps determine if the lack of training observed in earlier studies has changed. A list of recommendations for authors and reviewers of LIS literature is presented.

The focus of research libraries is changing to include digital resources, improving the information literacy level of patrons, and creating new partnerships on and off campus, among other things. This creates a need to recruit librarians trained in these areas and open to these changes. Library science training is a necessary foundation for preparing graduates to qualify for and excel in changing and emerging new roles. This article explores current recruitment efforts to articulate new roles and to successfully hire graduates with the skills and aptitude to fill them.

What would a “typical” librarian need to know before conducting an interview with a faculty member regarding his/her research data and associated needs in managing or curating this data?

Supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Purdue University Libraries and the Library School at the University of Illinois conducted research on “Which researchers are willing to share data, when, with whom, and under what conditions?”.
