Alexander Street Press (ASP) has become a leader in providing libraries and institutions access to streaming video and multimedia content. Since 2006, their offerings of online and streaming video databases have grown quickly. Recently, they released Silent Film Online (SFO), a collection of silent films, clips, trailers, and documentaries about filmmaking during the silent film era. ASP pricing is average for this content, and flexible, based on type of institution, budget, and FTE. Annual subscription or one time purchase of perpetual rights are options. In less than 10 years the availability of digitally converted or born digital video, has grown exponentially. Libraries and librarians are constantly navigating, and helping their patrons navigate, this shift from analog to digital. For access to video, our libraries are challenged by an individual consumer marketplace, where institutional access is often limited and expensive. Discusses the development of Providence College’s Phillips Memorial Library+Commons Digital Publishing Services (DPS) Department and its evolving collaborative partnership with the faculty editor of Inti: La revista de literatura hispánica, a paper subscription-based, peer-reviewed journal. Beginning with digitization and publication through Providence College’s institutional repository (IR) of the earliest issues, the paper details the evolution of the partnership through support for digital print-on-demand and creation of a companion website for both promoting forthcoming issues and for exploring new forms of “writing” and expression through digital media.

The benefits of conference participation for undergraduates are now well understood, but the same cannot be said for the practical question of how to create and fund such opportunities for students, particularly at smaller liberal arts colleges.
