Does a one-shot bibliographic instruction session really provide a foundation for undergraduate students’ research and information literacy skills? Or does this brief interaction leave students with the impression that research is easy? This session will explore the inner workings of a collaborative project between a librarian and an English Composition faculty member. This collaborative effort between librarian and faculty member includes: meeting to plan the semester’s research structure; the librarian’s introduction to the class and vice-versa; leading classroom discussions; team-teaching lessons; co-evaluating student assignments; individual conferences with students; attendance at presentations and essay workshops; and co-assessment of the students’ work …

Are your faculty picky eaters? Do your faculty members make a face when they hear the phrase “information literacy”? In an effort to get faculty to use information literacy skills and pass this knowledge to their students, sometimes librarians must use stealth and ingenuity. This session will focus on innovative ways that information literacy can be incorporated into already existing programs with faculty and also provide ideas on trying something a little different to get faculty to try even a tiny bite of information literacy.

This session addresses the alliance between information literacy and evidence-based practice (EBP) - the process of applying clinically relevant research to patient care. The context of the discussion is an occupational therapy (OT) research course co-taught by a graduate librarian and an OT faculty member. The course was literature-based, evidence-based, and inquiry-based; students engaged in problem-based activities related to occupation, mobility, and accessibility. We describe our strategies for embedding and modeling information literacy as a natural function of the course; provide examples of class activities and studentsí multimedia projects; and invite participants to explore their own understandings of practice supported …

Tweeting in the classroom has started to take off, with some notable examples such as Monica Rankin's history class experiment at UT-Dallas and Cole W. Camplese's classroom backchannel at Penn State-University Park. Taking these experiments one step further, Dr. Gardner Campbell, Baylor University's Director of the Academy for Teaching and Learning and Associate Professor of Literature and Media in the Honors College, invited Ellen Filgo, Baylor Libraries' E-Learning Librarian to participate in his First Year Seminar's Twitter experiment by becoming the class' Twitter-based reference librarian.
