This study investigated the preservation practices selected teacher colleges of education libraries in Ghana. The study examined the existence of preservation policies in the teacher college libraries, preservation techniques in place, level of training given to library staff on preservation and barriers to effective preservation of information resources in the teacher college libraries. In this presentation, the author, the University of Kentucky university archivist, outlines a problem with acquiring currently-created university documents and offers some initial solutions. The problem is that key university records of historical and strategic importance are being distributed or published online and not routinely transferred to the archives the way they were in the past. In August of 2020, UAB Libraries of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) launched the Documenting COVID-19 at UAB project, seeking the stories of UAB students, faculty, staff, and health care workers navigating life during COVID-19 to preserve them in a born-digital collection. Since then, ninety-five items have been added to the collection, including photographs, video/audio productions, news items, and personal written accounts. This case study discusses an archival consulting project to document and preserve hidden collections in rural northern California. The paper provides an overview of the collecting institution (the Mother Lode Land Trust), the collections and their historical context, and the consulting process. This study examined the role of federal varsity libraries in collecting and preserving indigenous knowledge for sustainable development in south east Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design to study a target population of 166; which contains all the academic librarians in the five federal varsity libraries in the study area. Abstracts:
The present paper seeks to contribute some insights into the different potential disasters that libraries are vulnerable to. The study is primarily built upon a comprehensive review of the literature. Further, the study is divided into two parts; first part, covers different disasters, policies, insurance, and role of the government in managing such disasters.
