Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria was established as a federal government financed university on August 1992. Because the university was unprepared to start any agriculture program at that time, there were limited provisions for agricultural information services. The study investigated the information literacy competencies possessed by Library and Information Science (LIS) postgraduate students in Federal Universities in South East Zone Nigeria with a focus on the Knowledge and skill level. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Seventy two students which included all 2011/2012 PhD and Masters degree students from the Departments of LIS in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Data was collected using Achievement Test and Questionnaire. Percentages, frequencies and mean rating were used to answer research questions. T-test was used to test hypotheses. The study examined the influence of information literacy skills on academics research productivity in federal universities in Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. Multistage sampling technique was used to select one thousand one hundred and fifty-seven (1,057) academic staff members from federal universities in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. The instruments used for data collection were: Information Literacy Skills Acquisition Scale (α= 0.83), Information Literacy Skills Scale (α= 0.92) and Research Productivity of Academic Scale (α=0.91). Nigeria has a rich Islamic manuscript heritage in danger of being lost due to lack of in-country preservation and conservation efforts. Of interest to scholars world-wide, these manuscripts in Arabic script are dispersed throughout Nigerian institutions and private collections. The paper x-rays the extent of automation in South East Nigerian libraries. Ex-post-factor research method was adopted for the study involving the study of 35 libraries in the South Eastern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The study revealed that out of six public and five ministries of Education /Information libraries, none is automated. It also revealed that out of the 24 academic libraries, only two are automated. Based on the findings it is recommended that: all the three tiers of government should automate their government departmental libraries to ensure efficient storage, retrieval and dissemination of government information; state and federal governments …

The exponential population increase in the Country is not without consequential effect on secondary schoolleavers jostling for limited admission space in Nigerian institutions of higher learning. Every academic year, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), rolls out frightening number of candidates desiring to enter Nigerian universities. These universities have limited resources to admit up to fifty percent of the candidates. The result is frustrated secondary school leavers who continue to apply yearly for admission. This study is concerned with what specific materials are used in fabricating the inks used in the surviving, largely undated Northern Nigerian manuscripts written in Arabic script. These manuscripts belong to the West African tradition of Islamic culture and scholarship, of which Timbuktu, Mali, was a key center. The manuscripts themselves, and 4500 km of road travel throughout Northern Nigeria, suggest a local tradition of dye, ink and pigment fabrication rather than one derived from the Mediterranean and the Islamic heartlands. Technical materials analysis, recipes from ethno-cultural studies, and replicative experiments revealed a reliance on local plants and materials. Botanical …
