So You Wanna Do A Poster Session: A Design Primer For New Librarians, Nataly Blas, Aisha Conner-Gaten, Melanie Hubbard

As information professionals and future faculty in a knowledge-sharing environment, librarians are expected to concisely and creatively share their ideas, presentations and poster sessions being the most common method of delivery. Poster sessions, in particular, are essential for early career librarians to promote their research and scholarly activities, expand their professional networks, and facilitate engaging discussions about the profession. Unfortunately, library schools rarely teach their students about poster creation (i.e., visual design, writing, and printing) and about how to present at a poster session. Because this process is most often learned through trial and error experiences, new librarians are at a disadvantage when doing poster sessions for the first time.

As publishing models continue to change and evolve, libraries have remained constant in their
pursuit of information access. After nearly three decades, academic institutions are still
adapting to open access publishing. At a medium-size, private institution, a library working
group was formed in order to alleviate rising faculty concerns on predatory OA journals. In
Spring 2015, three librarians formed the Credible Journal Criteria Working Group (CJCWG) in
response to faculty inquiries on open access (OA) publishing, particularly, how to evaluate OA
