With this, pre-service teachers at undergraduate institutions must learn how to find, evaluate and compare the results they find, and then determine how to implement such practices with fidelity. All Messiah College students pursuing any sort of teacher certification spend significant time in one upper level course to address finding and evaluating evidence-based practices. APA updated its style manual in October 2019 and APA plans to update the online APA site, Academic Writer/APA Style Central, in August 2020. Therefore, the library plans to update its APA materials and research assistance provided to patrons in August 2020, alongside the APA timeline. This presentation will cover major changes within the 7th edition including an expanded non-biased language section, and citation formats for online materials.

Connectivism is an emerging learning theory positing that knowledge comprises networked relationships and that learning comprises the ability to successfully navigate through these networks. Successful pedagogical strategies involve the instructor helping students to identify, navigate, and evaluate information from their learning networks. Many principles of connectivism align with the information literacy standards of the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Librarian educators should consider connectivism learning theory when implementing pedagogical strategies in the network domains of students.

The profound impact of digital reference claimed by its proponents is overstated. Librarians tend to overvalue technology, assume its intrinsic value in improving library operations and services, and undervalue the human factor of librarian expertise and professional competence. Overstating the impact of trends within librarianship is a cyclically recurring phenomenon and the hype surrounding digital reference is a current example. Some students immediately feel at home in today's technology-saturated library, but many others have difficulty navigating the myriad of electronic sources in most academic libraries. It is estimated that as many as one-third of the college students in the United States suffer from technophobia and are anxious about using computers. In addition to coping with computer technology, many first-year college students are intimidated by the size and complexity of academic libraries (Mellon 1986).
