As library users increasingly rely on mobile applications and responsive websites to access information, it has become imperative that libraries accommodate these needs. The tasks of building this type of resource may seem too expensive, time-consuming, and require the outsourcing of technology development. The presenters will showcase how this can be achieved on a small scale using existing staff, innovative funding resources, and affordable training. The poster will outline the presenters’ experiences designing a conceptual discovery framework, interactive website, and iOS application for health sciences students. In fiscal year 2016-17, University of Louisville Libraries began the transition from Plone Content Management System (CMS) to Springshare’s LibGuides CMS for websites hosting and management. This transition provided Kornhauser Health Sciences Library the opportunity to fully redesign our website to be more user-friendly, efficient, and visually appealing. To evaluate the efficacy of the new website in meeting these goals, we designed a usability study examining both versions of the site for efficiency and accuracy of information retrieval. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is a systematic approach to clinical decision-making, where medical practitioners use clinical evidence from current research to decide the best course of treatment. EBM is an essential concept in ​medical education, and medical librarians play ​an instrumental role in training students to ​answer clinical questions. ​This framework was designed to help​ students structure and categorize their​ clinical questions, so that they find the ​answers needed to determine ​treatment and/or outcomes. The framework is stage one of a three ​stage project, which will include ​an interactive webpage, and ​iOS application.

We will discuss our redesign of the information literacy component of the first-year general agriculture course at the University of Kentucky. More specifically, we will share how we are customizing content to meet individual instructor needs by team teaching, providing more active learning opportunities, and adapting our pedagogical toolkit.
