As part of the Loyola Marymount University (LMU) Brown Bag series, the POC in LIS Summit organizers, Nataly Blas, Aisha Conner-Gaten, Rachel Deras, and Jessea Young, provided an overview of our planning process as well as lessons learned. Snapshots of attendee and presenter statistics are included as well as a timeline for planning an event of this kind.

Operating from three distinct but interlocking perspectives, this session will cover the lived experiences of three librarians (Black woman archivist, a White woman anti-racist public librarian, and a Black woman academic librarian) navigating collection development and collection development policies in a profession that is 85.2% White. This program will also provide strategies for accomplices and white librarians to support their colleagues and implement anti-racist collection development strategies at their institutions.

After an election fraught with misinformation, fake news, and hoaxes on all sides, students found it difficult to navigate digital media not only for scholarship but in their personal lives. Acknowledging the impact that these feelings of helplessness and confusion play in their roles as scholars, librarians conducted information literacy workshops to de-mystify and engage students with meaningful current news outlets and specific news stories from all political idealogies.
