From Sea To Shining Sea: A Survey Of Intellectual Freedom Practices In The United States, Amanda K. Izenstark, Jo Knapp, David Bernardo
Public Services Faculty Presentations
The American Library Association provides a form for librarians to share challenges to library materials for the purposes of gathering data and providing support. In the face of increasing challenges to library materials, some states have also developed local procedures for gathering information and providing local support. In 2023, the presenters distributed a survey to gather information from states, territories, and tribal nations that do not publicly share their procedures to document efforts. This presentation will share the preliminary survey results showing differences across entities, lessons learned, and areas for future research.

How can all of us, as library workers, develop our writing and foster the growth of others in the profession? This question led to the 2022 launch of a program to connect writers with reviewers. Organized by library workers, this free service matches volunteer reviewers with writers for supportive and nonjudgmental feedback to improve the writing process prior to submission to a journal, conference proposal, or trade publication, and encourages many voices to participate in the professional conversation. Public Services Faculty Presentations
As critical educators and learners, we continually encounter a changing information landscape necessitating (re)considerations of our responsibilities as consumers and producers of knowledge. This workshop offers a window into a High Impact Teaching Seminar created by librarians and educational developers at the University of Rhode Island to intentionally integrate accessible Information Literacy (IL) skills for all students. Through a reflective exploration of IL threshold concepts such as scholarly conversation, authority, information creation, and strategic exploration, participants will learn about the seminar’s theoretical framework and structure, engage in sample activities, and consider possible applications at their own institutions.
