A case-study article written for the Digital Library Federation (DLF) website, section 'Blog and News'.
It discusses the important role of the digital librarian as a liaison between digital collections and digital preservation. It also highlights some of the major responsibilities of the digital librarians at UNLV Libraries. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the key role of the digital librarian in advancing a step closer to a robust and efficient long-term digital preservation strategy.

Crash course on web design for librarians that builds fundamental web design
and web development skills and introduces free technologies to make sleek
websites.
This session demonstrated how easy it is to do web design of a static
WordPress-driven website. Attendees learned the fundamentals of web design
and added practical skills in their toolbox.
Some of the topics covered are: web design basics such as navigation,
information architecture, user experience, project needs assessment, graphic

Plenary about the role of the digital librarian and how it relates to digital
preservation.
It’s common misconception digital librarians are involved only in
digitizing historic materials. In fact managing digital projects is only
their visible role. Once it’s over, librarians embrace their new role of

Chronicling America is a nation-wide project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress to make historical newspapers available online and full text searchable. Nevada has participated in the project since 2014. Each grant cycle lasts two years and produces 100,000 digitized news pages for online access. Title selection is guided by an Advisory Board to represent each county of Nevada. These newspapers are the first draft of history, show the daily lives, perspectives, and events of the past. It is not easy to tackle the issues and address the impact of abnormal or unhealthy interpersonal behaviors and interactions in the workplace. Drawing from literature on dysfunctional organizational cultures and workplaces from the library, management, and organizational development disciplines, Jo Henry, Jo Eshleman, and Richard Moniz approach the subject of the dysfunctional library in a slim volume titled The Dysfunctional Library: Challenges and Solutions to Workplace Relationships.

Many organizations face complex questions of how to implement affordable and sustainable digital preservation practices. One strategic priority at the University Libraries at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, United States, is increased focus toward preservation of unique digital assets, whether digitized from physical originals or born digital. A team comprised of experts from multiple functional library departments (including the special collections/archives area and the technology area) was established to help address this priority, and efforts are beginning to translate into operational practice. The Digital Processing Framework suggests a minimum processing standard for digital archival content. The framework brings together archival processing practice with digital preservation activities. Ten practitioners in the field designed this framework to be practical, usable, and adaptable to local institutional settings.
