Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw is one of the nation’s largest corporate law firms with offices in seven US cities and eight cities overseas. The firm, founded in 1881, has headquarters in Chicago, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Charlotte, Washington D.C. and Palo Alto. Overseas offices are in London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Shanghai and Beijing. The firm has more than 1300 attorneys and 566 partners. This is a presentation of 30 slides at the Brown Bag Series, School of Library and Information Science, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana on 31 March 2006. Abstract: Commons-based digital libraries are an emerging phenomenon. They are based on a new vision of digital information organization and use. A definition of commons-based digital libraries, some examples, fundamental characteristics, emerging information behaviors, and preliminary results from a scholarly communication survey of LIS faculty will be presented.

Information literacy is one of the major areas emphasized by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). According to NCATE, all candidates in school settings must be able to systematically integrate information literacy in Pre-K and K-12 school curriculum to assist student learning. The 21st century requires information literate teacher-researchers who are capable of meeting the standards set by the professional organizations such as (NCATE), the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). William Stetson Merrill And Bricolage For Information Studies, Anita Coleman

Purpose – This paper examines William Stetson Merrill, the compiler of A Code for Classifiers and a Newberry Library employee (1889‐1930) in an attempt to glean lessons for modern information studies from an early librarian's career. Design/methodology/approach – Merrill's career at the Newberry Library and three editions of the code are briefly examined using historical, bibliographic, and conceptual methods. Primary and secondary sources in archives and libraries are summarized to provide insight into Merrill's attempts to develop or modify tools to solve the knowledge organization problems he faced.
