While development of the Internet improved the way archives provided access to their finding aids and other materials to people around the world, the advent of social media has brought the possibilities of global access to a more personal and interactive level. During a time of economic instability, the need for the archives to be more visible within the institution is becoming more imperative to its survival and utilizing social media sites offers a way to proactively reach additional audiences and increase the visibility of archives.
