Western Libraries, an academic library with an FTE of 34,000, and Ingram Coutts, have worked together to implement an e-preferred Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) program at Western Libraries. This implementation has required collaboration between Coutts and Western Libraries collection librarians to develop effective profiles. These profiles allow the PDA collection to be filtered according to subject and non-subject parameters. There are several aspects of this project that make it unique. First, every e-book that is selected by a PDA-preferred profile will automatically be loaded into the catalogue for PDA. Patrons will trigger a purchase if the book is accessed twice. …

Utah State University Libraries hosts a thriving institutional repository, DigitalCommons@USU. The Library and Physics department developed a partnership to transcend traditional repository structures and emphasizes faculty research groups within the department.
This poster session highlights the features of the University's repository and describes what is required to establish a similar structure at an academic institution. We anticipate several long-term benefits of this new structure, which benefits students, the department, and the library.

The transition to electronic resources and the changing role of the collection development librarian are having a tremendous impact on the manner by which libraries select and acquire new materials. The goal of this research project was to further elucidate the current trends of collection development policies in members of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) as well as gage current use and future efficacy. The survey was designed and sent to librarians responsible for collection development at university-affiliated ARL libraries in order to obtain a current picture of academic collection development policies, and how they are changing due to …

Managing E-Publishing: Perfect Harmony For Serialists, Wendy Robertson, Charlene N. Simser
Wendy C Robertson
Serialist as publisher - a great duet? Serialists’ lives at academic libraries revolve around publishing, publication patterns and terminology, and technology. Join us for a session with two serialists who use skills honed in their respective serials departments to see how those skills adapt to the world of e-publishing. In this session, the presenters will discuss their roles in e-publishing and their respective university presses and library publishing programs. How have their libraries reorganized to provide resources for supporting these new roles? The daily work of an e-publishing librarian will be reviewed, including an overview of working with Digital Commons …

Implementing Oclc's Wms (Web-Scale Management Services) Circulation At Pepperdine University Powerpoint, Sally Bryant, Gan Ye

This presentation covers the reasons why Pepperdine University Libraries decided to move to the next-generation technology of WMS as our library system. WMS is an integrated library system hosted by OCLC that is “in the cloud.” Pepperdine was one of the first libraries to go live with WMS, and in this presentation we focus on implementation process, circulation, course reserves and holds. Although WMS is not a perfect system, we believe that libraries are poised to benefit from the next generation of library systems, such as WMS.

We’ve all been there – in front of the classroom with students half listening, eyes slightly glazed. This poster will highlight ways to combat student disinterest by collaborating with faculty from the very start. Come hear ideas about how to create meaningful, relevant assignments by breaking information literacy instruction into manageable segments.
