Forget Gate Counts: Assessing Transformative Programming, John Jackson
LMU Librarian Publications & Presentations
One of the five strategic goals of the William H. Hannon Library is to contribute to “formative and transformative education of the whole person through outreach and programming.” Through events such as the annual Haunting of Hannon, the Hannon Human Library, and the Spring Women’s Voices series, the library outreach team at Loyola Marymount University seeks to create experiences that reach beyond connecting students to information resources and highlight the library as a transformative force in student life. Measuring the success of these experiences requires targeted evaluation methods similar to those used for library instruction. This presentation will outline the …

The panel will discuss two inflection points in staff planning for library publishing: what it takes to get started (for a library that is just beginning to think about publishing), and what it takes to grow (for a library that has a few years of experience and wants to do more). It will also shed light on one of the least understood, and …

Conference Papers
Since 2010, the library at the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) in South County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, has been developing a suite of interactive online information literacy tutorials covering research, referencing, plagiarism and core academic skills. These open educational resources (OERs) provide users with a vibrant, challenging learning environment and facilitate flexible, 24/7, independent learning. The learning objects are accessible via multiple delivery platforms and are available for reuse under Creative Commons licence via national and international teaching and learning repositories.
This paper outlines the development of these OERs and how the creation of these learning tools has …

Training The Trainers: Faculty Development Meets Information Literacy, Susan Archambault, Elisa Acosta
LMU Librarian Publications & Presentations
Librarian and faculty collaborations are the most essential component of any successful information literacy program. How can librarians entice faculty to collaborate? A wide range of outreach strategies have been chronicled in the literature, including brown bag lunch discussions, faculty focus groups, librarian-faculty grants, librarian participation in faculty governance, and workshops. Collaboration can also occur as a result of accreditation or program review requirements. This session will focus on the method of hosting “train the trainer” workshops to present key information literacy concepts to faculty and stimulate ideas for embedding information literacy into the classroom. We will present a broad …
