Nationalism And Border Violence: The Global Rise In Soft Fascism, Rachel Shimabukuro
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Since the election of Donald Trump in the United States in 2016, there has been a particularly nationalistic, illiberal shift in the way we interact with the rest of the world. As we have favored some while violently excluding others at our borders, the media and press which criticizes these policies is under attack. This shift is not exclusive to the United States and the following research will also focus on the illiberal democratic movements in Hungary, Brazil, the Philippines, and the unfolding right-wing politics of a post-Brexit state. In an explanatory style, this research will focus on Benedict Anderson’s …

By analyzing research concerning the current stakeholders in the industry, historical conditions that led to the creation of television broadcast animation, overseas subcontracting networks, and the development of commercial fan cultures through Maurizio Lazzarato’s concept of Immaterial Labor, Michael Hardt’s concept of Affective Labor, Laikwan Pang’s concepts of the intensification of contradictory creative logics and …

Through this capstone, I wanted to bring awareness to the Japanese elderly as well as generate light on the topic.

How Collective Memories And Divergent Historical Perceptions Influences Sino-Japanese Relations, Kenneth Chevreaux
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This project is looking to provide a comprehensive study of how history has influenced and structured modern Sino-Japanese relations.China and Japan are two of the East Asian powerhouses with economies that account for a majority of the region’s economic activity. They are two of the most influential countries within the East Asian region and arguably the world, but Sino-Japanese relations have a history of tension and conflict that spans back centuries. It is my intention with this research project to develop a multi-perspective analysis of the structure of Sino-Japanese relations with a basis in constructivist theory. This research can assist …
Colonial Legacies In Morocco’S Urban Spaces: Policies Of Modernization And Preservation, Christina Gnedash
Colonial Legacies In Morocco’S Urban Spaces: Policies Of Modernization And Preservation, Christina Gnedash
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Globalization has touched Morocco through the historical process of colonization. Though the colonizer has left, a relationship remains and Morocco like many other countries is far too entangled in the global system of economics and politics to withdrawal. The restructuring of urban spaces and the preservation of cultural and historical sites have contributed to the country’s economic dependence on and the expansion of the tourist industry at the expense of local communities and certain industries. Culture has become a commodity that is profitable and thus countries besides Morocco continue to present an inauthentic and static experience for visitors that perpetuates …
