This presentation will discuss the results of a rubric based assessment created for a library instruction program that is designed to meet the needs of all incoming students at Clemson University. After attending the ACRL Immersion program Assessment Track, the instruction Coordinator for this institution returned with fresh ideas about assessment and she will share with participants the basic layout of the instruction provided and the thought process behind the creation of the assessment. Finally, results and a critical analysis of the process will be shared.

Why should students spend time navigating to find the library tools needed to search? Why not provide direct links to library resources so more time is spent finding, evaluating, and synthesizing information? These were questions asked by some academic librarians trying to help students locate resources for assignments. As a result, these academic librarians created online tutorials for using persistent links to library resources. Teaching faculty learned how to use the links in web pages and WebCT Vista. In Library Science, a core pedagogical outcome in higher education is “information literacy.” One component of this competency is the ability to evaluate information. In applying this ability to Seminary education, specifically to student academic writing, I suggest that “information” in theological inquiry is primarily an expression of testimony,” defined as information gained from statements and actions of others rather than from perception, memory or inductive inference. Thus recent discussions of the epistemology of testimony in regards to belief formation are pertinent here they contribute to understanding the dynamics of information exchange during the pedagogical event. The motivation for this study came from a desire to improve teaching of the use of accounting information for decision making. The information literacy standards and related performance indicators guided the development of a semester-long case study by accounting faculty and academic business librarians. Their collaboration yielded a series of instruction modules and related student exercises leading up to a group activity involving the evaluation of a company as a potential investment for retirement savings. Students enrolled in two sections of an introductory accounting course volunteered to participate in this study. They provided information about their knowledge before and after …

Today’s students exhibit generational differences in the way they search for information. Observations of first-year students revealed a proclivity for simple keyword or phrases searches with frequent misspellings and incorrect logic. Although no students had strong mental models of search mechanisms, those with stronger models did construct more complex searches.
