An Inter-Regional Analysis Of The Growth Rate Of Manufacturing Employment In The Province Of Ontario, 1960–1972, Brian James Lorch

Despite the existence of different levels of manufacturing in the various regions of Ontario, most previous studies of this phenomenon have concentrated on explanation of its locational pattern in southern Ontario only. In contrast, though, this thesis analyzes regional variation in the growth rate of manufacturing employment in a total provincial framework. Also, its approach differs in that it examines variation in the factors which account for manufacturing employment growth and whether or not these variations are consistent over space (between regions) and through time.

Residential Relocation Through Expropriation: A Case Study Near Welland, Ontario, David H. Sherwood

The study examines the residential relocation experiences of a group of homeowners expropriated in 1965 as the result of the realignment of the Welland Canal just outside of Welland, Ontario. It is based on interviews conducted in 1975 with 85 of the approximately 150 affected households. With Brown and Moore’s (1970) location decision model providing the conceptual framework, information was gathered on satisfaction with the expropriated home, the relocation decision process, demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the households, changes in living habits accompanying the expropriation, as well as data on the pre- and post-expropriation locations. The market, and marketplace systems, are very conventional features of the economic space and organization of developing countries. By “marketplace” is meant a specific authorized site where buyers and sellers meet at defined, regular intervals for the purpose of exchange (Good, 1971, p. 1). Nowhere are these markets as prominent as they are in Nigeria. These markets provide the setting for trading and marketing and thus play a vital role in the economic life of the country.
