Typescript of a diary kept by Joseph Rogers Underwood, 1834-1850, in which he records everyday occurrences at home in Bowling Green, Kentucky and in Washington, D.C., where he served in the U.S. House of Representatives,1835-1843, and the U.S. Senate, 1847-1853. Interspersed throughout are comments by his second wife, Elizabeth (Cox) Underwood. Also includes a document containing information about Thomas Rogers and an “Account of the Escape of Prisoners from Fort Warren, Boston Harbor” written by Douglas Gordon.

This dissertation examines the environmental, economic, and cultural conflicts over the private development of ski resorts in Colorado's National Forests between 1910 and 2000. Downhill skiing emerged as an increasingly popular winter activity during the first half of the twentieth century, particularly in western state such as Colorado. A part of the a larger outdoor recreational boom throughout the United States' during the interwar years, downhill skiing challenged the Forest Service's ability to meeting the public's growing appetite for year-round recreational opportunities. The 73rd and 74th Amendments in the Constitution of India made one million Indian women “elected representatives” in the rural and urban local self government bodies by granting 33% reserved seats in Panchayati Raj Institutions in 1992. During last 16 years, many grassroots activists of the women’s movement have plunged in electoral politics for empowerment of women in their constituency.
