International Comparative Criminal Justice Project, Jonathan W. Mccombs Oct 2016

International Comparative Criminal Justice Project, Jonathan W. Mccombs

Learning Showcase 2016: A Celebration of Discovery, Transformation and Success

The high level of collaboration between universities allowed this project to be a success for the students and for learning. Limitations such as the 5 hour time difference were challenging but not insurmountable. The usefulness of online and collaborative projects of this sort can effectively substitute for study abroad activities that are often not available to older adult students that might have families and jobs. In future runs of the project we hope to extend the semester to an entire course instead of being part of a course.

Columbus Scholar House: Innovative Housing For Student Parents, Isabel Toth, Traci Lewis, Denise Liston, Nancy Hood, Sarah French, Davita Tucker

Learning Showcase 2016: A Celebration of Discovery, Transformation and Success

Almost one-quarter of the U.S. college students are also parents. Many student parents are single parents, grew up in households with limited financials resources, or are the first in their families to attend college. Stable, quality, affordable housing is a critical foundation for student parents to be successful but there are limited housing options for this student subgroup. Supporting high-quality early learning opportunities for children of student parents is also a priority based on evidence from two-generation approaches to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Klipsun Magazine, 2016 - Fall, Ashe Lambe

Klipsun Magazine

Picture, if you will, a child with matted hair and a sunken lower jaw. Clutched in that child’s hands is a notebook, tattered and filled with sweeping drawings of dragons and the scrawlings of a dreamer.

If you asked that child to write about the real world, a scoff would have followed. “Why would I write about that? It’s boring! ”

As a 10-year-old, I was convinced of this mentality. I had tried writing about myself and I had tried writing about others. Nothing ever stuck. It’s hard to write about others without taking the time to walk in their …

Architecture Of Diversity: Using The Lens And Language Of Space To Examine Racialized Experiences Of Students Of Color On College Campuses, Michelle Samura Sep 2016

Architecture Of Diversity: Using The Lens And Language Of Space To Examine Racialized Experiences Of Students Of Color On College Campuses, Michelle Samura

Education Faculty Books and Book Chapters

"[A]n examination of racial diversity in higher education requires serious consideration of space... [A] spatial perspective offers a lens for locating and examining processes of racialization. And a spatial approach also provides a language participants and researchers can use to talk about the discreet ways race still operates in everyday interactions, including subtle forms of racism that are overlooked or ignored because race is often understood by students to matter less today. Essentially, a spatial approach sheds light on race relations and racial structures in tangible campus environments."

Klipsun Magazine, 2016, Volume 46, Issue 04 - Summer, Amanda Raschkow

Klipsun Magazine

Every day we have the ability to influence others and our surroundings. We share our stories in hopes that we can inspire change and create a conversation. Our stories can be tragic, happy or anywhere in between. But everyone has a story to tell.

As time passes by we realize how the little points in our lives can lead to bigger experiences. We listen to others while they motivate us to express our voices.

In life we may not always know exactly where we are headed but eventually we will find our path. As when the tides on a beach …
