Mapping Ghost Towns In The Santa Cruz Mountains, Sarah Christine Brewer Dec 2020

Mapping Ghost Towns In The Santa Cruz Mountains, Sarah Christine Brewer

GSP Projects

This project identifies areas of archaeological sensitivity for historic resources related to the segment of the South Pacific Coast Railroad that spanned from Los Gatos to Glenwood in the steep terrain of the Santa Cruz Mountains in Central California. The rail line was only in use for 60 years (1880-1940) until the completion of a major highway drew travelers to greater automobile use. During the construction and operation of the rail line, small towns sprouted at the railroad stops, most of which were abandoned along with the rail line in 1940. Some of these towns are now inundated by reservoirs. …

"This Is Home:" Pictures, Place Meaning, And Community In The Natural-Amenity-Rich Del Norte County, California, Erik Arndt

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

This study contributes to the existing, yet small, cadre of research using photo elicitation to investigate the place meanings of people living in a natural-amenity-rich area. Ten current and former residents of Del Norte County, California took pictures of and discussed in an interview the people, places, and attributes they found valuable or meaningful about that place. The primary focus of the photos and interviews was how these natural amenities, in particular Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, impacted or influenced residents’ place meanings. Three major themes of place meaning were identified from the interviews: Environment-Landscape, Human-Social, and Recreation-Exploration. Each contained …

Living Rivers, Cosmopolitan Activism, And Environmental Justice In The Bengal Delta, Daniel Adel Jan 2020

Living Rivers, Cosmopolitan Activism, And Environmental Justice In The Bengal Delta, Daniel Adel

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

This thesis explores the social movements and civil society activism to protect the rivers that flow through Bangladesh—the cradle and terminal delta floodplain of the transboundary Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna river systems—, as well as ways to build regional cooperation and watershed democracy in South Asia. The research drew on four overarching fields of study: environmental justice, southern environmentalism, ecological nationalism, and environmental governance. These four bodies of scholarship helped address the overarching question: how are civil society organizations analyzing and responding to the water diversions and degradation of Bangladesh’s transboundary rivers? Semi-structured interviews were conducted with civil society organizations …

"The World Has Changed, And The Wiyot Changed With It:" The Socio-Political Processes And Rationale Of Cultural Landscape Decolonization On Wiyot Ancestral Land, Mark C. Adams Jan 2020

"The World Has Changed, And The Wiyot Changed With It:" The Socio-Political Processes And Rationale Of Cultural Landscape Decolonization On Wiyot Ancestral Land, Mark C. Adams

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

This thesis examines recent successful efforts by the Wiyot Tribe in Humboldt County, California to resist and reverse forms of settler-colonial oppression with tangible and unprecedented results. The original inhabitants of Humboldt Bay: the Wiyot, and their allies in the local community, have overcome settler socio-political resistance in three contentious, public disputes to preserve and restore tribal sovereignty over ancestral land and culture. While much has been written about the history of the United States as a settler-colonial project, more research is necessary to understand the processes of grassroots decolonization efforts to alter cultural landscapes. Using a combination of feminist …

Pass The Faa Drone Pilot Test—Remote Pilot Exam Preparation 2020, Nicolas R. Malloy

Textbooks and Manuals Series

Part 107 is the subdivision of Subchapter F of Chapter 1 of Title 14 that pertains to small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS). To legally fly a small unmanned aircraft for non-hobby, non-recreational use, remote pilots must abide by these regulations. This book is intended to explain the Part 107 regulations in a short and easy to read format. Additionally, this book also covers other areas of knowledge required by the FAA, including airspace and requirements, weather, loading and performance, and operations. Readers also have access to a series of sample test questions. Because the FAA does not provide specific test-questions …
