In 2014, the California legislature for the first time took some steps to create a framework for regulating groundwater pumping in over-drafted basins by adopting the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), representing California's first statewide groundwater management planning program. SGMA called for local agencies to develop groundwater sustainability plans within the next five to seven years and then achieve sustainable levels of groundwater extraction by approximately 2040 to 2045. California's prior efforts to regulate groundwater extraction is discussed, as well as groundwater depletion.

The next methodology to the Airline Quality Rating (AQR) Social Media metrics is to determine if scholarly platforms for future use can benefit the AQR. The AQR authored by Dr. Brent Bowen and Dr. Dean Headley introduced the Airline Quality Rating (AQR) in 1993 as an objective method for comparing and scoring airline performance in areas deemed to be important for consumers. The quantitative metrics from utilizing new marketing techniques have increased the audience members attracted to this report. With a digitalized driven society, social media has been the main benefactor in gaining new attention. Continuing on the process to …

Graduate Outreach Services: Perspectives From Two University Library Programs, Corinne Bishop Edd, Nashieli Marcano Phd
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
This session highlights graduate outreach services at the University of Central Florida and Clemson University libraries and compares institutional program approaches, outreach strategies, and the research needs of student populations in the Social Sciences and Engineering.
The presenters coordinate graduate outreach services at their institutions, and the first part of the presentation will include a discussion of each institution’s service model and each librarian’s role. Details about collaborations with campus partners and networking, f2f workshops and use of online platforms (Canvas LMS) to promote services, recruiting outreach advocates, and marketing programs will also be discussed.
The second part of the …

Particulate reinforced metal matrix composites (PRMMCs) are of interest owing to the low cost of their raw materials and their ease of fabrication, making them suitable for applications requiring relatively high-volume production. The improved properties of PRMMCs result from the addition of hard ceramic particles (such as Al2O3 or SiC); the size, shape, volume fraction, interfacial properties and distribution of these (together with the fabrication method) determine the mechanical behaviour of the composite. However, PRMMCs have inferior ductility, toughness and low-cycle fatigue properties compared with unreinforced alloys, often limiting their usefulness in practice. Reinforcements of between 15 volume % and …

A350 grade black mild steel is one of the most widely used structural materials in the world, being commonly found in buildings, bridges and offshore structures.Welding is commonly used to join two plates of structural steel and this often takes the form of a T-butt.In addition, other more complex geometrical joints are often simplified for stress analysis purposes by approximating them as 2-D T-butt plate models (e.g. skewed T-joints, cruciform welded joints, tubular welded joints, pipe–plate joints, etc.).However, all such welds are potentially susceptible to fatigue crack initiation and slow but accelerating growth arising as a result of fluctuating service …
