I specialize in the field of energy economics and the macroeconomy. Currently I am researching the demand and supply side effects of oil markets. I examine the impact of demand and supply shocks in the crude oil market on industrial production in the US and other OECD countries (as opposed to treating oil price shocks as exogenous). Social ventures offer a vehicle for addressing the grand challenges such as global health, sustainable agriculture, clean technology, and financial inclusion through co-opting capitalism while serving societies. By explicitly and simultaneously focusing on social/environmental impact, underserved markets, and financial sustainability, they disrupt markets, products, and funding models. Price Escalation Verification Project - A Consultants’ Report, Tarun Kabiraj

At the request of Coal India Limited (CIL) the “Price Escalation Verification Project” has been undertaken by a team of the Economic Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute. The project examines the escalation clause associated with the price index formula to be used in contract agreements between CIL and Mine Developers.

The existing formulae for price escalation, both for open cast and underground coal mining, have been examined and certain modifications along with justification have been proposed. Using illustrative examples, it is found that the suggested escalation formulae have significant impact on the final prices.

The global throwaway culture has created a cross-ecosystem plastic pollution injustice. The first to suffer this injustice will be the most vulnerable. Our oceans have become our dumpsters. The throwaway culture has created a disrespect of material goods that has turned the earth’s resources into rubbish after a single use. In 2008, the Bakken went boom. Thanks to advances in hydraulic fracturing, oil production in western North Dakota exploded. As the price of oil went up, so did the oil rigs. People came from all over the country (and the world) in search of work, and cities and towns struggled to keep up. This book is about the challenges they faced.
