The Interviewee:

Rosanna Mastrangelo was born in February 1964, in South Philadelphia. Her parents, along with the rest of her family, were Italian immigrants who had come to America after the end of World War II in hopes of rebuilding a better life for themselves. Raised in a tight-knit Italian neighborhood and surrounded by Old World traditions, Rosanna quickly realized the importance of remaining close to one’s roots, especially in forming her unique sense of identity. Attachment, Marriage Beliefs, And Sense Of Identity Among Unmarried College Students, Marleny Rodriguez, Diana Montague

Attachment styles often reveal what individuals personally value within themselves and others. In this study, that idea was explored through the attachment styles, restrictiveness of marriage views, and sense of identity through the condition of marital status (whether in a relationship or not) of 106 unmarried undergraduate students from La Salle University. It was hypothesized that marital status would moderate the variance in the restriction of marriage views due to attachment style (secure, preoccupied, dismissing, or fearful), and that marital status would also moderate the differences in attachment styles accounted for by identity. We present two studies that examine the needs of college students with ASD from the student perspective. First we report on the types of self-determined goals students with ASD create, alongside peer mentors, to help them reach social, academic and self-advocacy goals. Our focus here is to determine if there is close a correspondence between students' perceived needs, and needs as determined by standardized measures and the perceptions of the peer mentors. In addition we will present "real life" narratives from students with ASD about their social experiences and successes in college and their choices around the issue of self-disclosure/self-advocacy.
