The Dana Medical Library mounted a webpage of health-sciences information sources for mobile apps in early 2011, followed later by a lending system for iPads. We offered workshops on "Mobile Apps" and promoted them at orientations, usually including a few words while teaching other topics.

We will review the successes and challenges of introducing this new technology, and offer some perspectives for the future in managing mobile apps.

Just a few years ago, social media tools were so new that adapters were considered innovators. Many academic libraries now routinely share information about their collections, programs, and services through these modalities, but how do we evaluate our efforts, in a medium that remains inherently experimental? This paper will look at both qualitative and quantitative evaluative measures that can be used together to assess the efficacy of social media marketing campaigns and will provide conference-goers with sample rubrics for assessing the use of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Abstract: In the fifteen years since the explosion of the Internet, using cyber technology for work & social functions has exponentially increased. Yet the questions around how to manage such changes remain elusive in family therapy literature. In this investigation, we conducted a content analysis to determine to what extent marriage & family therapy (MFT) journals have responded to the integration of the Internet in couple & family life. We found 79 of 13,274 articles across seventeen journals focused on the Internet in some capacity supporting the contention that cyber issues are largely ignored within the MFT field.

In the 20th century, vaccines were heralded as one of the greatest medical inventions in history. In the late 1990’s, however, the myth of vaccine-caused autism caught fire. Despite mountains of evidence disproving the link, panicking Americans eschewed vaccines and turned against their physicians. Why did Americans turn their backs on doctors, scientists, and the health industry? Comprising of thousands of forum, micro-blog, and entertainment websites and mobilizing the overwhelming number of Chinese internet users, or netizens, the search engine is able to quickly find obscure information and identify seemingly anonymous internet personalities. These websites allow netizens to have their voices heard in an otherwise restrictive government, however these websites also become a hotbed for dissent, with web users highlighting stories and figures which they deem harmful to society. Societal standards of feminine beauty are presented in all forms of popular culture, thus bombarding women with images that portray what our society considers to be the “ideal body type.” These images, as seen on the cover of magazines, in popular films and in all forms of web and print advertising, are consistently depicted and easily described with one word: skinny.
