When Colette Sweers enrolled at Cedarville University in 2017, she wanted to trade her ticket to Ohio for a ticket to Liberia in West Africa and her class schedule for a mission. She was confident God had called her as a missionary, and she was impatient to go, but she had much to learn before she was ready to follow her calling.

One small team of Cedarville students plans to serve more than 90 different people groups within the span of six days. How? By traveling less than 600 miles away to what has been called the most diverse square mile of the country: Clarkston, Georgia.

When Dr. Thomas Mach, vice president for academics, originally pitched the idea of a missions trip to the Ivory Coast to serve alongside his missionary brother, Bob, he didn’t expect much interest. Instead, more than 60 students attended the introductory meeting and Dr. Angelia Mickle, dean of the school of nursing, also expressed an interest in going. A medical missions trip was planned for spring break and on March 3, Mach and Mickle, accompanied by 13 students, left for Côte d'Ivoire.

Cedarville’s global outreach program will send 16 teams of more than 150 students, faculty and staff members around the globe during spring break March 3-10. Five teams will serve stateside, while 11 teams will travel internationally in the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
