In 2016 the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Libraries opened the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons in the main library (Love Library) with the intention of creating an informal user space for study and social interactions. Within the Learning Commons, a popular science collection was curated based upon patron interest and to organize a scattered collection into a more discoverable location. The collection has been highly used by patrons, and new content is regularly added each year.

In Nebraska, little is known of the potential needs and perceived challenges related to stewarding digital materials in libraries, archives, and museums (LAMs)), many of which are operating in small communities with limited resources. This presentation outlines the preparation, design, and results of a questionnaire distributed to Nebraska-based LAMs to gain a better understanding of the current state of digital stewardship across Nebraska.

Increasing responsibilities, coupled with larger student bodies and corresponding increases in teaching and research faculty and staff, have made it difficult for many librarians and information professionals to spend time on collection development. This presentation will demonstrate how both formal and informal outreach efforts can inform collection development of Chemistry resources, the evaluation of existing resources, and guide collection maintenance efforts.
