Objectives: This study analyzes and describes the literature of addictions treatment and indexing coverage for core journals in the field. Methods: Citations from three source journals for the years 2008 through 2010 were analyzed using the 2010 Mapping the Literature of Nursing and Allied Health Professions Project Protocol. The distribution of cited journals was analyzed by applying Bradford’s Law of Scattering. Results: More than 40,000 citations were analyzed. Journals (2,655 unique titles) were the most frequently cited form of literature, with 10 journals providing one-third of the cited journal references. Drug and Alcohol Dependence was the most frequently cited journal. …

Hospital library users often use library resources for doing research for scholarly and professional writing projects. Citations and format style for academic papers and publications must often conform to the “APA Style”, found in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. This publication manual is among the pantheon of standard publication manuals on library reference shelves, including the American Medical Association Manual of Style, The Chicago Manual of Style, and Turabian’s “Manual for Writers”. The APA style is prominently used in social sciences and many nursing and allied health publications. Hospital librarians may be asked for advice on formatting …

Securing external support from competitive grants, corporate sponsorships, and fund raising is a growing area of interest in many types of non-profit organizations, including health care. Many different types of grants are available from both public and private agencies at the national, state, and local levels which can provide additional support to the hospital’s mission of patient care, teaching, and research. Patient care professionals as well as administrators are often unaware of what external funding opportunities are available, and how to secure those funds.
