When the announcement came a little over a week ago The Orlando Sentinel fell over itself like the lapdog it has become for the Orlando Magic and the DeVoss family. It was of course the major news that Orlando was about to get a hockey team in the International Hockey League, and the city was about to facilitate the process with another sweetheart contract with the family DeVoss for use of the O-Arena.

It is the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of Monday Night Football. The other networks laughed when ABC announced it was going to take NFL football into prime time. Who would watch? By Monday everyone was suffering from football burnout what with the College games on Saturday, and the double network double headers on Sunday. It just wouldn't work.

Creating Vertical Strategic Alliances: Theory And Cases From Canada's Agri-Food Sector, Erna Van Duren, Wayne H. Howard, Helen Mckay

Agribusiness

Participants in Canada's agri0food sector have been averse to vertical collaboration for too long. The sector's history of producer marketing boards that were concerned with obtaining bargaining power to redress the market power of buyers has created attitudes the market power of buyers has created attitudes towards buyers and sellers that increase the risk that agri-food organizations will underestimate the advantages of vertical strategic alliances and overestimate the difficulty of building such relationships. However, in spite of the prevailing attitude among participants in Canada's agri-food sector, many organizations have nurtured vertical alliances. How long has it been now? Two months. Three months. Does anyone remember exactly when the baseball strike began? For the record it was August 12, 1994, some three months and a week ago. Racial Barriers To African American Entrepreneurship: An Exploratory Study, Joe E. Feagin, Nikitah Imani

Black Studies Faculty Publications

Much has been written in the ethnic entrepreneurship literature about the contrasting business performance of African American entrepreneurs and those from other minority and immigrant groups. Yet very little research has been conducted by social scientists on the business experiences of black entrepreneurs. In this exploratory study we examine the situation of black contractors in the U.S. construction industry, utilizing 76 in-depth interviews in one of the South's metropolitan areas. We document the nuanced character of the racial barriers faced by black contractors in several areas of the construction industry.
