This paper suggests that imagination ferments regional development. The paper considers how education, and in particular regional universities, are part of the regional development cocktail. Using contemporary and historical experience at the Shoalhaven Campus the paper explores how Shoalhaven campus can be seen as an integral ingredient in the Shoalhaven development cocktail. In doing so, it provides an analysis that matches other regional campus experiences. What is Shoalhaven Campus? An educational precinct based on a campus co-location model. In his keynote address at the ANZRSAI Conference 2005, Professor Blakely challenged regional scientists to use their “ideal position to forge these [separate disciplines informing regional science] into a disciplinary understanding that operates across disciplines”. In doing so the forces at work in the myths, magic and mix of regional innovation are necessarily viewed as interdependent components. An identified gap in the higher education sector is the development of leadership capacity for teaching and learning. Significant funding has been allocated by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) to support the development of academic leadership in higher education. The outcomes of this initiative will ultimately improve the student experience as a more scholarly approach to the many aspects of teaching and learning is adopted. One project funded by ALTC supported four universities to develop and trial a framework for leadership capacity development. The purpose of this study was to examine the leadership behaviors of coaches within the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities using the Revised Leadership Scale for Sport. A secondary purpose was to gain greater insight into the democratic and positive feedback leadership behaviors of male and female coaches in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Three hundred and ninety-six head coaches in the CCCU participated in the study; 320 (80.5%) males and 76 (19.5%) females. The participants completed the Revised Leadership Scale for Sport (Zhang, J., Jensen, B.E., & Mann, B.L., 1997). The results of the study …

The purpose of this paper is to examine the nature of the relationship betweentransformational leadership, meaningful work and workplace engagement. Although there isconsensus that better engaged employees help organizations to perform better, industry reportsindicate that only one fifth of employees are engaged in their work. The context of leadership has evolved to incorporate greater social identity differences. Therefore, learning ways to navigate differences in social identity becomes important work leaders must now do. Because these differences surface in relationship with others, examining a relational framework helps us understand the nature of what happens between people (Ely & Roberts, 2008). The central issues here are the consequences and the impacts of the announcement of the resignation of Sir Terry Leahy, the CEO of Tesco, from the organisation in March 2011. The announcement on the 8 th of June 2010 that Leahy, Tesco’s chief executive officer and one of Britain’s most respected businessmen, would be retiring after transforming the organisation into the world’s third biggest retailer, has generated a groundswell of reactions.
